There can be, and often is, confusion between the Annual Parish Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council.
The Annual Parish Meeting must be held annually between 1st March and 1st June. The meeting must not commence earlier than 6.00 p.m. and cannot be held in any premises used for the supply of alcohol unless no other room is available either at no cost of at a reasonable fee.
The Annual Parish Meeting is an opportunity for the Parish Council to explain what it has been doing over the last year. It is also an opportunity for residents to raise any issues with the Parish Council. Only parishioners who are registered on the Electoral Roll can vote on any issues. Other members of the public can attend and speak but they cannot vote.
The Parish Council arrange the meeting, but it is not a Parish Council meeting. If the Parish Council Chairman is present at the meeting, he/she must preside at the meeting. If the Chairman is absence then the Vice-Chair must chair the meeting. If neither are present those attending the meeting should appointment a Chairman for the evening.
